Yesterday we took another baby step forward. We got Melaney in the pool at physical therapy for the first time. She has not been in a pool since our vacation May of 2007. Last year this was not an option because of her trach. This will enable us to more efficiently exercise her and give her a whole new sense of her body while being “weightless” in the water. Thank you Pat for your help in making this possible. Now that we see how easy it is we plan to get her in the pool here at home. Mel definitely enjoyed the experience and was very relaxed. We got a few smiles and laughs but the sun was too bright for her to open her eyes much even though the pool is completely covered. Note to mom “bring my sunglasses next week”! She will get her pool therapy once a week with Pat as long as the temperatures stay warm, hummmmm…..let’s see, in Houston that could be until December?…lol.
Got to have one of these great floats. Keeps her totally stable in the water. Looks like she feels very secure.
Napping during therapy?
OK so stretching is not as much fun as napping.
Now that is what I call relaxed. What a great first day back in the pool.
P.S. Thanks Tiff for being there to help and take pictures for us! :-)
Check out our new addition on the side bar! Melaney’s fantastic four has become the fabulous five. Bonnie is another speech therapist who has joined our team. She will be seeing Mel once a week to try and figure out how we can help her communicate with us. Welcome Bonnie and thanks for accepting the challenge to help us achieve our miracle.
Remember always to expect a miracle!
